24 June 2026
We have been advised by North Yorkshire Council of a temporary service suspension and subsequent turnaround delays affecting their CON29 Local Authority searches.
As part of the council's ongoing amalgamation of its Planning and Building Control Services across its legacy districts of Hambleton and Selby, there will be a temporary service interruption affecting property searches conducted in these areas.
Please note the following critical details and dates:
- Service Suspension (6th July – 4th August): North Yorkshire Council will be unable to accept or process any new CON29 Local Authority Search orders for the former Hambleton and Selby areas during this period.
- Existing Search Orders: Any search requests submitted and accepted before 6th July will be processed as normal and returned as soon as they are complete.
- Post-Suspension Backlog (From 4th August): The council will resume accepting search orders on 4th August. However, due to the anticipated backlog, turnaround times for all areas under North Yorkshire Council (not just Hambleton and Selby) are expected to increase to an estimated 25 working days for the CON29 Local Authority search.
For context, turnaround times for the Selby and Hambleton regions are currently running at 10 working days for the CON29, so please factor this significant increase into your upcoming transaction timelines.
It should also be noted that the respective Local Land Charges (LLC1) element of the search for each district will remain unaffected as these are delivered by HMLR electronically.
The council has confirmed they will process all applications strictly in date order and will be unable to expedite or prioritise any individual searches.
SafeMove will continue to monitor the situation closely. If you have any questions regarding a pending or upcoming order, please do not hesitate to contact our team.
