SafeMove Joins National Land Information Service (NLIS) Hub as Licensed Channel

SafeMove, a trading arm of Yorkshire Water and official provider of the Law Society’s CON29DW Drainage and Water Enquiry for the Yorkshire region, has officially joined the National Land Information Service (NLIS) Hub as a licensed channel partner.

The move was confirmed by Land Data, the NLIS regulator. SafeMove supports conveyancers and property lawyers nationwide with residential and commercial property searches, combining direct access to authoritative Yorkshire Water data with a comprehensive range of conveyancing reports.

By joining the NLIS Hub, SafeMove and our customers gain direct access to Official Conveyancing Search data sourced from every local authority in England and Wales, as well as the Mining Remediation Authority and HM Land Registry through the UK’s only regulated Official Searches network.

Crucially, our onboarding to the current NLIS Hub as an approved channel means SafeMove will transition directly to Next Gen NLIS when it launches in March 2027. This ensures complete continuity of service while giving our clients early adoption of its key benefits:

• User Certification: Security via the new Land Data Trust Framework, ensuring authoritative data is shared securely between verified users according to agreed rules and permissions—an approach the Government has announced will be mandated in the future.
• Expanded Data Access: Early access to new data products and services from local authorities, the Mining Remediation Authority, and other key data providers.
• Streamlined Efficiency: Faster processes designed to significantly reduce search queries.
• Comprehensive Support: Full access to dedicated helpdesk and payment facilities.

The current NLIS Hub processes the largest volume of Official Search transactions of any single network in England and Wales. It is also the only regulated Official Searches portal in the UK, maintaining the highest standards of data security, assurance, and provenance.

Government Funding for Next Gen NLIS

The UK Government’s Regulatory Innovation Office (RIO) funds regulators and local authorities to trial new and innovative regulatory approaches enabling businesses to bring innovative products to the market quicker. In October 2025, through the Fourth Round of the Regulators’ Pioneer Fund (RPF), the RIO awarded Land Data a grant of £999,592 to deliver Next Gen NLIS, alongside Land Data’s own reserves.

About Land Data & NLIS

Land Data was set up in 2001 to regulate and run (under licence) the National Land Information Service (NLIS), a newly created ‘Hub’ providing a single point of access to Official sources of land and property information from every local authority in England and Wales, HM Land Registry and the Mining Remediation Authority.

A cross-Government initiative, NLIS was launched by HM Land Registry, the Improvement & Development Agency for Local Government (IDeA, now part of the Local Government Association), Ordnance Survey, Valuations Office Agency, DEFRA and the Cabinet Office central IT unit. Its goal was and is to make property information available to everyone. To date the NLIS Hub has processed over 27 million searches.

Land Data is now modernising this 25-year-old national data infrastructure. Launching in March 2027, Next Gen NLIS and the Land Data Trust Framework will transform how authoritative land and property information is accessed and shared across the conveyancing and property sectors. Building on the trusted foundations of NLIS, the new platform will prioritise trust, standardisation, interoperability and innovation, enabling its users to deliver more efficient, secure and future-ready digital services.
