The introduction of new national restrictions from 5th November across England by the government, whilst not being as strict as the initial lockdown in March, do make allowances for the continuation of the housing market as conveyancers will be aware.
However, these additional measures are expected to have a further impact on the turnaround times for both official and personal Local Authority searches.
As it stands, most Local Authorities within the Yorkshire and Humber region are coping well under COVID-19 the restrictions with their official searches and are offering turnaround times (TATS) typically under or around the 14 working day mark.
The most notable exceptions as of 3rd November 2020, being Rotherham Council which is stating a minimum of a 30-day TAT for its official searches and Harrogate Council which is reporting a 35-38 working day TAT.
As the new restrictions come into force, Personal Local Authority search TATS are likely to be extended further as access to their records continues to be restricted and the backlog of requests continues to mount.
